Class Descriptions

Community Classes

Yoga in the Park
Adopt a park and help to bring yoga into your community while beautifying the spaces that surround you. Each one hour classes offers an introduction to the physical postures, breathing, and relaxation techniques of yoga. Following the class, trash is collected as a group gesture in gratitude for the space. Donations are also accepted. Weather permitting, classes are conducted outdoors or indoors if space is provided. Students are encouraged to bring their own mat, blanket or large towel. All levels welcome.

Burly House
This class is a fun and unique way for friends to get together and neighbors to finally meet. Rather than travelling to the other side of town to find a class, we have brought yoga to the suburbs of south Austin. It is with great pleasure that i invite you to the Burly House. All levels welcome.

Meditation & Techniques
While no one can be taught *how* to meditate, we can use tools for fine tuning our perception of inner awareness and discover for ourselves. Learn philosophies and techniques from both the Buddhist and Vedantic perspectives with at least a 30 minute meditation to practice.
(see also Articles/Why meditate?)

The Dojo
Conveniently located in a friendly and funky central Austin neighborhood, the Dojo has served as a movement space for dance, yoga, and martial arts classes for many years. A dense bamboo lined path leads to this serene cedar structure surrounded by open air screened windows with lush vegetation and vaulted ceilings. The west facing deck also fosters informal community gatherings before and after classes.

Private Classes

Private Solos, Duets, Trios, and Groups

Workshops

Yoga for Children
A fun and playful class allowing young people to discover their natural movement and abilities, while also exploring methods to relax and breath. Working within the natural context of their own bodies, the children learn traditional yoga postures and concepts along with exercises, games, role-playing and songs to better understand themselves and their relationship with each other and the outside world. Class duration is one hour and adapted for ages 3-5, 6-9, and 10-13 years. Sorry mom and dad, kids only ;)

Yoga for Equestrians
Awareness, balance, alignment, focus, flexibility, strength, sensitivity and relaxation. These are the basic building blocks of both the ancient traditional practices of horsemanship and yoga. Equestrian Yoga is a holistic approach toward the integration of body with mind and rider with horse. A conscious and balanced union creating in essence a dressage class for the rider.

Public Classes

Sivananda
This holistic approach enriches the classical forms of Hatha yoga with ancient Vedantic philosophy. A unique method combining mantra (chant), pranayama (breath), and asana (physical postures) with moments of savasana (rest) to create an experience of moving meditation. Come observe your practice from the inside out.(see Articles/Sivananda and Sivananda Beginner Workshops )

Synergy Hatha Flow
Explore your practice while learning complimentary techniques to the traditional methods of both Ashtanga and Sivananda yoga. This synergetic flow combines the dynamic and subtle aspects of each tradition while adjusting to the individual personality of each class. Take a break from the prescribed sequence of postures - walk on the wild side! (see Articles/Hatha Flow/ Vinyasa and Beginner Hatha Workshops)

Ashtanga
This dyanmic and challenging class transitions fluidly through each posture of the primary series as taught in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhis Jois of Mysore, India. Utilizing the pace of the breath and subtle energies within the body - students learn how to move more efficiently and with ease through the prescribed sequence of postures. Together these techniques are utilized to maintain a rhythmic flow, focused concentration, and natural detoxification through the development of internal heat. Prior yoga experience is required. (see Articles/Ashtanga and Beginner Ashtanga Workshops)
